Rev. Wilson Miscamble, C.S.C.

Father Miscamble is an award-winning historian and former chair of the History Department and Rector of Moreau Seminary who has been engaged for decades in discussions about Notre Dame’s Catholic identity. In his new book, American Priest: The Ambitious Life and Conflicted Legacy of Notre Dame’s Father Ted Hesburgh (Penguin Random House), he gives us a clear-eyed and capacious portrait of Father Hesburgh as Notre Dame president and public servant, with his many  praiseworthy qualities and contributions but also his single-minded quest for the acclaim of secular academe that has led to a major weakening of the Catholic identity of the University.

Mackenzie Kraker & Jim Martinson

Mackenzie Kraker (’19) and Jim Martinson (’19) are recipients of this year’s Sycamore Trust award for outstanding contributions to Notre Dame’s Catholic identity. Mackenzie is president of Militia of the Immaculata, the Notre Dame chapter of the worldwide evangelization movement founded by Saint Maximilian Kolbe in 1917. Jim is president of Students for Child Oriented Policies (SCOP), which advocates for children by promoting marriage, education, and adoption and defending against the harms of pornography and drug/alcohol abuse. Jim spearheaded this year’s anti-pornography campaign.
