before The breakfast
The evening before our Annual Breakfast has become a time set apart to continue the conversation with those who share our love for Notre Dame and concern for her Catholic identity. What began informally in the homes of our founders has become an annual tradition of gathering for a private dinner with our speakers and others who have played a meaningful role in Sycamore’s mission. It’s an opportunity to share stories, ideas, and a meal in the kind of setting where our work first began.
In many ways, this dinner reflects the very origins of Sycamore — born from conversations around a table, guided by shared convictions and a desire to serve the Church and Notre Dame. That spirit of dialogue and fellowship continues, which is why we now refer to this evening as our “Founders’ Dinner.”

Few figures have given as much, for as long, to the cause of Notre Dame’s Catholic identity as Bill Dempsey. Well into his 90s, Bill continues to devote himself daily to the mission of Sycamore Trust with the same tenacity and conviction that marked his distinguished career. While many seek rest in retirement, Bill has found purpose—indeed, a calling—in this work, and that devotion has inspired and encouraged countless others.
Our Bill Dempsey Fellowship Fund is a way for supporters to follow in his footsteps by committing to ongoing support for Sycamore Trust’s vital efforts. This fund enables recurring contributions to sustain and expand our most essential initiatives, echoing Bill’s enduring commitment—steadily, meaningfully, and with purpose.
