The Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Since the late twelfth century, the Church has dedicated the month of June to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus—ablaze with divine charity, pierced for our redemption, and thirsting for the salvation of souls. This is a sacred time of grace, of reparation, and of renewal for the faithful—a devotion deepened and made more urgent after the apparitions to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 1670s, when Our Lord revealed the image of His Heart, crowned with thorns and consumed with love.
During this month, many Catholics seek to honor the Sacred Heart with visible, public acts of love and fidelity—joyful witness to the mercy and kingship of the One who loved us to the end.
And yet, in these times of cultural confusion and ecclesial compromise, such expressions are not merely neglected—they are frequently replaced by banners of secular ideologies and parades of moral relativism. At the University of Notre Dame, a school consecrated to Our Lady, the month of June has been publicly marked by “Pride Month” celebrations, promoting ideologies and behaviors that contradict the Church’s moral teachings.
This is not just forgetfulness. It is a deliberate omission—a betrayal cloaked in the language of equity and inclusion. It wounds the very Heart of Jesus, to whom the University was once devoted. It abandons fidelity to the Truth for the fleeting favor of the world.
Now more than ever, Catholics must rise to reclaim June for the Sacred Heart—through prayer, reparation, and bold public witness. As Pope Pius XI taught in Miserentissimus Redemptor, reparation to the Sacred Heart is “a duty of justice,” owed to the One who is so little loved in return.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
- Reclaim June and help restore it to the meek and humble Heart of Jesus.
Sacred Heart Novena
June 19–27, 2025
In a time marked by confusion and compromise, we turn with confidence to the Heart that was pierced for our salvation. We invite you to join us in a Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, concluding on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart—celebrated this year on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Wherever you are, whatever else you are doing this June, simply include the following prayer—composed by Father John Raphael, ND ’89—in your daily prayers or devotions.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, fountain of infinite Mercy and Love, we worship, praise and adore You!
When You revealed Your Wounded Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque You reminded us of the price You paid for our salvation and of the boundless love You have for each of us.
Through the mission of this holy nun, confirmed by the Church, You invite each one of us to come and behold Your Sacred Heart, which so loves mankind, and is so little loved in return.
You invite us to console You by our own faith, love and devotion offered to You, and You call us to make reparation for all the sins, indifferences, sacrileges and abuses by which Your Divine Majesty is offended.
We at Sycamore Trust join all the faithful of our Notre Dame Family in responding to Your invitation. We pray that Notre Dame will always reverence and honor Your Most Sacred Heart and will reject all that is contrary to Your Goodness, Purity, Mercy and Love. We pray that the campus of our beloved alma mater will become a beacon of light, hope and virtue for all.
May Mary, Our Lady of the Most Sacred Heart, intercede for us as we make our prayer to You, who live and reign with the Father, in the Unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, pray for us!
St Margaret Mary Alacoque, pray for us!
St. Claude de la Columbiere, pray for us!
